With the present petrol problems, it would be advisable to avoid Tesco, and Morrison service stations, until it is all cleared up, but who supplies them ? Total, B.P, Shell, Texaco, Conoco ??

I used to work for Shell and we used to deliver petrol and diesel to
BP,Texaco, and Esso if they were running short. It is the same with
all the big oil companies, they help each other out with supplies. So
if you swear that one companys product is better than another, you
have been mislead, because it is all the same. The silicon contaminated fuel will be traced back to the same refinery that all
the garages were supplied from.

Petrol in general is either delivered to the UK already refined and much of this comes from what is called the spot market in Holland. Much of the fuel sold by the supermarkets comes in to the UK this way. Fuel sold by the major oil companies such as shell or BP is made at their own refineries in the UK.It looks like a contaminated ship load has come into the UK and it may be contaminated because the last ship load of chemicals was not washed out properly before refined petrol was put into the tank. i am however puzzled as to why the independent tests carried out by the supermarkets are OK so far. I once had this problem myself in about 1983 when I received a shipment of contaminated fuel for the public sector fleet of vehicles I ran at the time. i expect we will find out shortly what the actual problem is

I hope it's not Total. I filled up a full tank on Tuesday evening but since have driven 250 miles without any problems.

BP Ultimo petrol is the only one so far that has been confirmed as not being contaminated.
