My MIL (mother in law) is about 72, lives on her own in Dublin. I have been married almost four years, I feel her hobby is us which is now getting very dull and I would prefer if she played a game of cards, she doesn't drive, so my husband all the time to drive her places and meet her for lunch. would prefer if she played golf or something?

get her a second hand computer and a connection to the internet. She may complain but show her how to use it, particularly with online shopping in case she can't get to the shops in case of bad weather, illness, etc . Spend a good amount of time with her and show her some sites. You may be surprised, but 'silver surfing' may take over and she will spend time online (TalkTalk's Broadband package is the best, and cheapest). Hopefully she may get some more interests on line.

Hi Sunflower,
My Mum seems to be involved in green bowling, ladies luncheon clubs, local amdram , at the age of 78. (I do the lighting & music,)Mother performs in fine manner on the stage
Golf is good - I met a lady of 84 years at the local thing, who could easily beat me. I am "only" 51
Even so, I have knitted myself a hippie waistcoat.
A great relaxation in retirement.
All the best with loads of stuff that your MIL can do.
I need a water-ski instructor, ( I just drive the boat now, and shout things)

Crack on, would be my advice, and try something new.
Oh, and have a glass of sherry now & then !

Bob

You are her hobby, why would she need a new one?

Sorry.

Doesn't she have any friends around her age? You need to see if there are any senior organizations she can get involved with in her area.

Good luck. I had a sister in law like that and it was not a good time.

Is there a local club she could join? Or maybe go on a coaching holiday where she may meet like minded people. The local community centre may have some craft days running, it may be worth asking around.

What you prefer is not the issue, nor is it your choice. His Mom is just that his MOM. I sure hope when i', m 72 my son is as attentive as hers. How about you getting a hobby so this issue will not bother you .

I think she should come and live with you. Taking care of you two would be a great hobby for her.
