Use AVAST HOME EDITION! Forget bout what the others say.. Ive been using it for a while and got no problem with it.. its easy to use.. very cool interface.. not to mention the part when it detected a virus ("Warning! A virus has been detected") lmao.. the Avast Virus guy..
I'd say Avast is the killer of Symantec's Antivirus.. cuz its just really cool.. It's a talking antivirus software! It's the future of all antivirus softwares.. get Avast.. Better, Safer and FREE...

avast is slow or say slows down our computer
norton requires very high ram
use my solution.. u will never b in trouble...
use these, u will never b suffered from viruses or spies..
1. NOD32 is an antivirus

when ur 30 day trial expires.. just reinstall it, it works fine again... i m using its free version from 2 years..
2. Autopatcher.. keeps ur computer update and makes ur security so much tight that u can live without antivirus too...

Go to Avast.com and install. Good!
alternatively go to Avira.com and install. I use it. Excellent.
Also get SpyBot Seach & Destroy and install.
Also get CCleaner and install.
Use Mozilla Firefox BROWSER and Mozilla Thunderbird for your e-mails opposed to using the Windows Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
I use all of these - advised by an expert who has been working and testing different software for the past ten years.

my bf is an ict technitain and he swears by avg for free downloads to get rid of viruses

You can download a free anti virus/trojan version.
