Can the world possibly compromise their interests and try to help the suffering women and children in Africa and Asia? Do we only have to intervene where we have interests like minerals and large markets for our products? And sometimes fuelling crisis like hitting Somalia with missiles from a safe distance and trying to cover up, eh? In the words of Phil Collins; "...When the dust settles and the blood stops running, how do you sleep at night...?"

If you want to help the poor don't feed them.
If you don't feed them they will die and won't be able to create more poor people for you to feed.
This constant repetition of feeding them can only end with one result.
You will run out of money and become the poor person You were trying to help.
I'd rather feel bad about not helping one person than feel bad about not helping one family.

I see a few issues in this question.

Are we willing to create peace: depends, I suppose on the "we." As you said, wars are based on love of money (ie, greed) rather than any altruistic reasoning of helping another group of individuals... at least in recent history. I don't see that as changing anytime soon. Money and Greed seem to be what is fueling so many things in this world right now.

can we compromise their interests... : it depends on who the they ("their") are.

can we try and help the suffering? Probably not any government will take this on... it is not profitable. However, there are some very good organizations which are not just giving food, but showing them how to grow food, providing animals which provide milk and eggs which provides on-going food sources, and helping whole communities.

I must say that I don't totally disagree with PsychObug - and that bothers me. I'm going to have to spend some time thinking about that... I enjoy having my general philosophy challenged.

most people are, the problem is, in this country, liberal politicians. liberals, in general focus on whats polticially correct and not necessarily whats right or effective where peace initiatives or military intervention are clearly necessary. a perfect example of this would be the villification of bush to mask the power grab of 06 by the pelosi ites. this is a complex world which demands politicians and diplomats have understanding of many cultures and values. im concerned deeply about our future as cut and run and liberal avoidance of the iran syria diplomatic gestures in favor of grandstanding, not only hurts peace, but our future as well.
