Hi. I took an Abtrim Pessary (like Canestan) at the advice of a doctor, using the applicator. However the next day I read that you're not meant to do this in the first 12 weeks. Does anyone know what the side effects are and if it can harm the baby? What are the dangers?

She also gave me some cream to apply. Anyone know if this is necessary, even though I've got no itchiness or external symptoms?

Thanks. I'm having sleepless nights over this ;-(

Apparently, they don't know if it's absorbed; it's a theoretical danger.

For what it's worth, I'm sure it's been used by countless pregnant women, even in the first trimester. I did, on a doctor's go-ahead.

There's very little that isn't "theoretically" risky, despite a lot of women safely using it. Companies are very, very cautious. My asthma inhaler is theoretically risky, but you don't see anybody not using theirs. There just isn't any such thing as a risk-free pregnancy, and yeast infection treatments are about as low-risk, I think, as 'theoretically risky' gets.

Really, not a worry. Get some sleep!

Re. external cream: no, no; don't bother. It's just meant to soothe things if they're irritated, not cure anything.

I've had a thrush (candida, yeast infection) , but I got rid of it in a natural way. Hear my share, it may be helpful to you.

I developed a severe case of vaginal yeast infection that would not let up. The itching, burning and swelling of my vaginal were simply unbearable. I have purchased several over-the-counter treatments, including Monistat cream to subside the symptoms.
While it worked initially, eventually things wore off and left me with an even worse infection than before. The same goes for the antibiotics I took with the advice of my doctor.
I felt horrible !!

After doing some research online, I guessed I had a yeast infection and purchased Yeast Infection No More program( http://www.yeastinfectionnomore.co )
The results were almost instantaneous. In less than 7 hours, I felt a tremendous relief. Two weeks later and I became completely free from the unbearable vaginal itching, burning, swelling and discharge. Using this methods, I have kept my chronic yeast infection at bay ever since.

No more drugs or OTC’s for me.

Firstly did the doc know how many weeks pregnant you are, if so she should know wether or not it was safe to give this medication. I also used Canestan during pregnancy and it didnt harm the baby. If this doesn't reassure you, then phone doc up or go back.
