Without know the specifics, it is hard to say, but it could be the old green-eyed monster, Jealousy. It could be on both of their parts; the mother that raised you and not ready to lose her "baby" and the wife that wants her husband to herself and not always be compared to Mom.
However, when you took the vow of marriage, you vowed to put your wife first, yes, even before your own mother. You need to talk to your wife and reassure her that she is now first in your life, but your Mom is still an important part and ask for her support, even if the compromise is cutting back contact with your Mother.

well, you left your mother for a life with your wife...it is not healthy to fight ove the parents...try to see your wifes point of view...Most likely she is right...Mothers have a tough time letting go of their baby boys....your wife needs to be number 1 now...
