Why is it illegal to find out the sex of the feotus in India?

People here prefer male child and if the foetus happens to be female the unscruplous ones tend to abort it.........so to prevent female infanticide and maintain male/female ratio it is so........

now i'm not entirely sure, but from what i think, its that if you have a scan in india and it shows that its a girl, alot of indian families would want to abort. boys have a priority in india.
