My apartment today had a notice on the door stating that effective April 01 the entire building including apartments themselves would be 100% smoke free. About a month ago i was going through landlord tenant laws for Washington state and seem to recall a law requiring smoke-free buildings to notify the tenant of their no-smoking policy in writing before they move in. Since i have been notified in writing 5 months after having moved in does this new change in policy apply to me? My lease doesn't expire until the 18th of april afterward it will automatically go month to month requiring 20 days notice from me to move out or of eviction. It seems to me that since i have already been renting here there is no legality in enforcing the policy against me. Legaly how does this work?

it won't take place. I construction can decide to be non smoking or contain it of their hire contract, even nevertheless residences are actually not public area, they seem to be a private place of residing. The words of condominium are dictated by a landlord, not a governing physique. With legislations like that the place can we draw the line. There are any style of issues that would effect a persons'' well being in shared area. i'm allergic to canines and bees. could I push for legislations banning my neighbours from protecting vegetation as they entice bees? legislations including it particularly is in actuality unenforceable. Do you rather think of the police are going to expire on smoking calls? to not point out they might would desire to capture you interior the act. As an ingredient not in Ontario you already won't be able to smoke, in bars, golf equipment, noticeably a lot any public area and exterior area it particularly is considered encloses. So a picnic tent or maybe a gazebo are smoke loose.

WHAT AN ********...legally, you have a point. this is top advice. every time you have a nic/fit step outside for a smoke or at least blow the smoke up the bathroom vent. otherwise your choice is move and apply for a new apartment.. lets assume you keep your apartment neat clean and tidy. you are quiet and you pay your rent on time 2 days early each and every month. did you figure it out yet. when they check your references the response will be WHAT AN ********

Consult an attorney about property laws. Nonsmokers far outweigh smokers so the other tenants must have complained and won. Your lungs should thank them. Judging by the 3 thumbs down, smoking also makes people cranky.

I don't know the laws, and being an ex smoker, I really don't like to be around smoking. BUT it seems to me that smoking is still LEGAL, and yet anyone who smokes is treated like a criminal. I'd really try to fight this one. Another freedom lost. What will they ban next? Good luck to you.
