The premise of your question is debatable.

Better is such an all-encompassing judgment, in fact it is way too early to assess if in fact the 'modern generation', is kinder wiser, more analytical, less warlike, more compassionate or smarter.
A generation is usually around twenty years, and since I'm almost sixty and have seen a few generations I have to say its been about the same. Some in each generation are smart, some are wise, some don't listen to the wise.
I will believe the first generation better than the older one when they can go through their cycle without a war. It seems that each generation has theirs and the young die, and still it goes on and I have to wonder what we learn from them, except how to kill more efficiently so they don't kill us more efficiently. Nice if you are in the arms business, but for those of us in the life business you have to wonder if there isn't a better way of settling differences.

every coin has two sides, if u look to both the generation, old and modern r better in their time. when the time is changing, then generation are also changing their views, ideas, thoughts, likes, dislikes etc. so as per the situation modern generation is better because the world is going on very fast, and to survive in this world u have to be better then others, it doesnt mean that old generation is not better, they were better in their old time. have a nice day.

it isn't. humanuty, as a whole, is regressing. the bad ones are getting steadily more vicious, while (at least in europe) the legal system chronically fails to protect the law abiding citizens, allowing do-gooders & defence lawyers (vermin of the highest calibre) & half-wit irresponsible judges release serious offenders with little more than a telling off. respect, courtesy & good manners is almost a thing of the past. a sense of community is now a memory. the only thing that seperates us from the wild beasts (apart from the wild beasts' higher moral character) is we fashion our weapons rather than be born with them. human "civilisation" is now little more than a poorly attempted sham & a fraud. it's high time for another great plague to wipe out the effluence from our species. maybe, with a fresh start, we can rise to the great heights we are capable of.
as for the above obssession with "modern technology", we are getting lazy & stupid because we have machunes to do almost everything for us. oh, & let's not forget our ability to destroy nations at the push of a button. what a "great achievement" that is. we spend billions finding new ways to level whole cities while (even here in the "civilised" west) the poorest of us (including hard working families languishing on inadequate low wages) can scarcely afford decent food much less adequate health care. let's all hear it for the "superior modern human".

The olden days of cowries, the days of trade by barter, an exchange of cow for grain, these good olden days as our forefathers call it. are the days of stone age, when you take several days to reach your destination because there are no tared road, ships to transport large stocks etc. The modern generation where you have the whole world in your fingertip, you dont need days to reach your destination, infact sometimes you transact your business within a second , what about drugs to cure common illnesses compared to olden days based on trail and error. The modern generation is better because illness are cured on time, transaction of business is faster, communication is effective. even production of agricultural produce are far better by the use of technological device. furthermore lack of education, high level of illiteracy make older generation to be manupulated easily, we should recall the era of slave trade where human beings are sold for money as if they are animals.

I don't necessarily subscribe to your premise. I don't believe that the present generation (whether it's "modern" is a matter of opinion) is any better or worse than any other - just different. It happens again with every generation, and will undoubtedly continue for a great many generations to come.

sorry to say it your question is flawed....
Who says the contemporary generation is "superior" to its predessessors?
oh wait... the contemporary generation say they are - who would've guessed they would think they were better... lol

There is nothing to say we are "better" we have more complex technology, for certain, but less personal time and higher stress levels, higher depression levels and more suicides per capita.

Its all relative and its all a trade off... more money for less personal time
Less stress - les benefits
less suicides - more time spent with family and friends and not at work....

Maybe you could revise the question - Given our greater achievements (more money more technology) are we better off? or have we thrown away the best parts of life????

in what way are they better do you mean. the technology for our time is better, the generation is not though. in many ways it is not, in many ways it is. just like the previous generations.

That is provided that we actually learn from history and try to correct our past mistakes, to always move forward in a direction that will sustain the race of mankind.
