Why it's Digg?

Tell me why there are people out there willing to invest their time "digging" interesting news for Digg.com???
There's no known form of reward and they (the users) are not the shareholders. So why the dedication?

It is social networking. By digging something which they find interesting, their friends can look at the same articles, so it is a quick way to find out what your friends have been looking at.
