Check the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students - that is a good place to start - www.csfes.org and also, check ChildSafe. If you are a college student then it is a good idea. If you are in high school, wait until college because the host families are not checked with fingerprint-based criminal checks and many foreign teenagers end up with sexual predators. Be careful. Don't trust a company that doesn't do fingerprint background checks.
