I've often wondered this when I've watched this brilliant movie.
Nurse Ratchett (An oppresive Government)
MacMurphy (The minority asking why and fighting the system)
Chief (The minority yearning to be free)
Tabes (The militant rebel)

Maybe I'm just seeing something that isn't really there, I have read the book as well and that just re-inforced this theory.

What do you think?

It was, but it was much more of a commentary on the appaling way society treats people with mental illness. Many of the practices still used in such institutions are the same as were being used nearly a century ago - in spite of the very poor success record.

Maybe it can be interpreted that way but people always read more into things than the author put there in the first place.
