Uaually Symantec will examine the virus and will write a removal routine fpr the virus in an update of NAV.

Then the virus is put into theier collection of viruses, and they will provide virus specimens to other A-V developers.

I had a friend who was in the A-V field 11 years ago and knew everything there was to know about the field. He had more than 3,000 viruses in his personal collection. helped Richard Ford of the National Computer Security Association develop the testing methodology the NCSA uses to test anti-Virus software.

General note: Not all viruses get quarantined properly.

If the virus in question is a worm such as W32Feeb then norton will do bugger all. It will say that it's repaired it, won't bring it up on a scan again because it's comprimised Norton. Then Norton will suddenly detect it again and 'repair' it once more. You need a removal program for some 'quarantined viruses', which will in general reset your registry, etc.

Always best to keep one handy just incase the symptoms keep occuring.

Viruses and trojans (also known as spyware) are two different types of software and you need both anti virus and anti spyware on your pc.
If you scan with an anti spyware and it doesn't find anything, it probably means that you don't have spyware.
If your pc is giving you problems it might be something else.

You need all these anti spyware programs, they're all free;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

Plus;
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware

And these are useful utilities;
http://www.mozilla.com/ - Firefox web browser.
https://addons.mozilla.org/search.php?q=ad+block&type=A&app=firefox - Adblock Plus
http://www.ccleaner.com - Cr*pcleaner Registry cleaner and privacy tool

the ones they quarantine are harmless enough but if you want to remove them click on their name in quarantine to highlight them and then click delete or remove. the scan doesn't always find a virus hun it depends if there were any that got through to be found,(the quarantined ones dont count if thats what you mean they are already dealt with)

Nine out of ten times, if the scan doesn't find anything...there is nothing there.
If your computer doesn't seem to have a mind of it's own...
You are OK.
