towards windows? Or were they all pointed internally towards a wall or another elevator? I'm exploring the possibility that air compression caused elevator doors to burst open during the collapse thus causing debris to spew out 20 floors below the falling masses.

That's all I needed to know because the crash floors were not the levels where the squibs came out.

It's funny how people think there are easy answers. There were 200 elevators in the WTC. The system included two express systems to mid-building "skylobbies", with local elevator service from the skylobbies. Because of the skylobby system, very few of the shafts extended the full height of the building. I recall all the elevators facing inside walls, but I'm sure someone will come along and say otherwise. I no longer remember clearly. I can tell you that in the north tower, the elevators openned north and south. In the south tower, they openned east and west.

It wasn't necessary for the doors to be forced for debris to fall. The elevator shafts were not made of masonry, but rather of multiple layers of drywall. As a result, the shafts were easily compromised at the crash floors. Burning fuelfell into the shafts, as well as quite a bit of debris. The open shafts allowed smoke to fill the upper floors, and allowed air to feed the heart of the fire.
