For example: Sometimes I try to think of everything that could go wrong in a situation to avoid it. Then I get so worked up over what could happen; but it hasn't.

Yes, everybody learns that emotions can feed back and reinforce themselves in what can be a vicious cycle, especially in those diagnosed as manic depressive. The brain keeps on pumping out more chemicals reinforcing one mental state till the neurons numb out from overstimulation. Then something happens shifting the emotional response and soon you're on a runaway freight train hurtling toward the opposite end of the emotional spectrum.

Maybe. I would say emotions are vulnerable to thoughts. And thoughts are often caused by emotions.... you see where I'm going with this?
