The sun rises at the east and sets at the west. Point your right arm to the direction where the sun rises and point your left arm 90 degrees, counterclockwise with respect to your right arm. Your left arm is pointing at the north direction. During the night, look for the constellation called big dipper. Its two outermost stars, when connected with a imaginary line and extended downwards will point to the 'polaris' or north star. Knowing where north is, you can find the other directions by using your arms.
