It shouldn't be that bad, torts can go a while without eating. Try offering collard greens. If his eyes are puffy, offer a bit of spinach, it has a lot of vit A.

Make sure the tort has water that it can easily get into and soak. Give him/her a bath once a week with water no deeper than his chin. As soon as he's out of the tub, let him wander the bathroom and offer him greens on a paper plate. My female russian wouldn't eat for about a week, but she was dehydrated.

If you gave him a bath and offered him food, please bring him to the vet. It could be a very serious problem.

Knowing the species would really help.

The most common reasons tortoises don't eat is cold temps. Aim for temps in the 80's most of the time with no cold drafts.

As for diet, there are two basic groups of tortoises:

GRASSLAND tortoises (Greek, Hermann's, Russian, Gopher, Sulcata, Leopard, etc.) eat a diet that is about 40-45% hays, grasses, flowers, and yard plants; 40-45% veggies, mostly dark leafy greens; 10% fruits; and under 5% meats.

FOREST tortoises, like Red-foots, Hingebacks, etc. eat a diet that runs about 60-65% dark leafy greens and some veggies, 20% fruit, and 10-20% meats.

Mine's favorite is cherry tomatoes. They like anything with bright colors, but these shouldn't be a staple food!

Dark leafy greens are good in moderate amounts, most should have some drier food mixed in (dried grass, timothy hay) to increase the fiber content. They don't do well with most fruits (too much sugar content), but small amounts of apple can be given. DON'T give spinach, kale, parsley, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, or Brussels sprouts unless in very small amounts - these contain chemicals (oxalates) that prevent your tortoise from properly using the calcium in its diet! Lettuce contains few nutrients.

Try cutting up a tomato (take out seeds & let juice drain) or carrot and putting it on top of some greens. Make sure its temperature is warm enough (they need the warmth to digest their food) and feed early in the day - since they need the warmth to digest food, most tortoises eat early, then spend the rest of the day basking.

phone a reptile centre or vet. they'll help you out. by the way, it's a total myth that tortoises (and rabbits) eat lettuce only. This actually dehydrates them and leads to a very painful death for them. iv seen it often, not nice. So feed him lettuce now and then, but like humans they need variety

Hope that helps you!
