Exactly how many calories you'll burn depends upon each person obviously, but for a full workout you can burn at least 400 calories (for a 2 hour workout for a beginner). Once you start getting faster and getting better swimming technique you'll see an increase in your speed which will let you do more work in your workout and therefore burn more calories.

As for the results you won't see them immediately but trust me, you'll notice it once you've been swimming for over a month. It's a great exercise and I also recommend taking before and after pictures of yourself now and then when you're well through swimming just to let yourself know that there are results. This will also boost your confidence in your program and will make you swim faster as well.

As a long time swimmer and former coach I can tell you that it is a wonderful way to improve your body. Just as a tip if you are wanting a more powerful body do 4 laps at a time as fast as you can then take a break for a minute or so and repeat trying to do more every day. For a leaner body do slow percise strokes and swim constantly for as long as you can. Thus the reason that the 50 m sprinters have massive bodies and the 1600 m distance swimmers have a lean toned body. Keep it up. I don't know how old you are but swimming has put both myself and one of my younger brothers through college. So it has benifits outside of the pool as well.

Swimming is amazing!! If you eat a balanced diet and swim regularly, you should stay really fit! You should start swimming just some easy lengths at first and then work up doing more each time. You should always have a drink with you while you're swimming so you don't get dehydrated. It does make you really fit so swimming regularly must burn several calories!

I'm on a swim team, and they make swim 72 laps at times for warm up. That's a mile. I'm olny 13. But you do burn a lot of calories the more you work. It's better to pull ur arms all the way out and do the stroke perfectly, rather than doing it faster and sloppy!!

Swimming is one of healthiest exercises going. You use nearly all of your body, but it's weight is supported by the water so no jarring or joint damage. Only excessive phusical activity can burn calories faster.

I don't know exactly how much fat/calories you will lose, becuase it all depends on how much you put into your swim. It takes about 6 weeks until you begian to see results. So, push it strong, keep it up, and you'll see results.
