If someone had asked for a help, he that I've helped him so why bother telling it to his face. Honestly, doing good stuffs doesn't matter, what matters is, what's inside your heart when you are doing such and what's running inside your mind as you help other people.
Jesus says, "Do unto others what you want others do unto you," specifically you have to do good but out of love and not out of some rewards you could get from it. Be happy as well, for me I've already did what God commanded me to do, always open your hands and hearts to others.

No. I don't tell anyone, if I do, they won't believe it. So, why should I tell ? I simply qiuetly do some good deeds occasionally.

Honestly, it's easier after 20 years of being a cop to realize people mostly don't appreciate what you do for them, but do it anyway. You still feel good about it.
