If you warm up, then the warm up will stretch everything normally if the exercise you do causes full range of motion. For example, I used to slowly jog to warm up before I did my interval training on the track. Then I would do four sub 60 second quarters and end up with six 220's around 25 and 26 seconds. Then I would jog until I slowed to a walk. Then I would shower. You definitely want to warm up the muscles and ligaments before exercise. You will notice that if you warm up with five or ten push ups and then rest, then when you do your push ups you will get more reps. If you don't warm up, then you have to warm up in the first few reps and there is always a chance of injury when you put a strain on an unwarmed up muscle. Jumping jacks is a good warm up. Now for someone not too limber, stretching might be a necessity.
When I was young, I never had to stretch because I was very good about warming up. Now stretching is very important to me. It might be important for you too because my observation is that kids today are not in as good a shape as we were (without game cube and x-box in our lives).

You should always stretch your muscles before a work out. This may eliminate any pulls or strained, ligaments, mussels & tissues. Running with your head up amd arms always swining for the heart. Good Luck

Yes, you should always stretch before any type of excercise. It only takes a few minutes, but can prevent strains and such.
