We found a house that is right for us & applied to rent it.All this time, they have been working on the application & we have been running ragged to get references. Now that we have been approved, they tell us we have to get the deposit to them before anyone else, because there are "several" ppl looking at this particular house!
They knew from the start we only get paid once a month!

They might want to make sure that the house is rented. Looking out for their own interests. Maybe they need the money to make the payment on the house you are moving into. Just because they are the landlords doesn't mean the house, taxes, insurance, etc. are all paid off. I've been a landlord and after awhile you get tired of peoples promises and excuses while you get left paying the bills and making the repairs. It's tough for both sides.

If you applied to rent an apartment, you should already have your first months rent and security deposit. A landlord, with several prospects, is not going to wait on you to get paid. He is going to take the first eligable person with the money to move in.
You are obviously not prepared to even start looking, especially if you have to wait until payday to give him the deposit.
Start putting money away to move. When you have that, then start looking. If you find the right apt and are approved, then you can secure it by giving the landlord the deposit he needs.

Yes, first come, first serve. If the landlord has several interested people, whomever can provide the deposit first is going to be the definite tenant. They don't really care about your finances as long as they can get someone who can pay sooner. Also watch out: never pay cash, always write checks and have a fully completed rental agreement; it's better to have everything in writing in case of a dispute, you never know.

if u give them the deposit, they will sure rent the house to u... they just wana get a comfirmation that u really wana buy or rent the house... this type of thing was happened in malaysia like a normal thing... anyways give a deposit just like signing a comfirmation letter only... if u really want 2 rent that house... u can either just give them or find another house...
Good Luck....

Landlords aren't in the business of being nice. They want to make money and ensure that their property is going to have a tenent who will be reliable. They don't care if it is you or the person down the street.

Them asking for the deposit now lets them know you are truly interested in the home.

I don't know. Maybe because they want the money quickly?
Landlords don't care when or how often you get paid. They just want the money. They're not there to help you really...just to make money.
