Almost any band who is any band is searchable on mp3.com and it lists their cd's and you can sample the songs. I always use this search when I am looking for new bands.
There is also a site called Mog. Tons of music lovers go on here, band members have profiles so it can get their name out there.

You will get many answers to this question, but if you ask me....the best way right now is through MySpace. (www.myspace.com). 80 million users, all linked together.....what could be better? Not to mention they have "Artist Pages" that will actually let you up load your music to their servers and let all 80 million users listen. That a mighty big crowd to play for.

i'd go make a page on www.myspace.com they have special pages just for music artists, and from then on you can add people to your page, or they can add you, then you will have the whole networking thing going on.
