The vast majority of Americans are barely aware of cricket. It isn't even on our radar screen. If you rounded up 10,000 native born Americans you might find one that so much as knew the rules, and that one probably studied in England for a year on a university student exchange. Americans are, as a general rule, indifferent to sports that didn't originate or become popular here. There is a glimmer of hope for soccer (the world's great passion is still met by yawns for the most part), but cricket has absolutely no, and I mean NO hope. I'm suprised you would be suprised by this.

Cricket is boring. Basketball is interesting and fun. In cricket they spend most of the time standing while in basketball they're always moving. Another important thing is basketball players can make more money than cricket players. Nobody in America cares about cricket so keep that over seas in India and don't bring this topic back up.

Anyone interested in what cricket has to offer can watch/play baseball. That's why cricket will never gain any popularity in USA. For the exact same reason baseball will never get any popularity in India.
It's another story with basketball.

If I am not mistaken cricket matches can take a few days and they go on for several hours at a time. The American attention span can barely handle baseball games which last, on avergae, a little over 3 hours. Cricket is probably a lost cause in the United States.

Probably a number of reasons. We already have a sport similar, and that is baseball, many would probably look @ baseball and just think "oh we already have that, why bother". Otherwise, we have too many sports in the USA (one reason why THE world's sport, football/soccer isn't as popular here, especially among the "American Football" crowd), and many wouldn't care for one more sport played in much of the old British Commonwealth countries to appear here.
