Surely in this day and age we can find a better system of finding out if someone is guilty or not of a crime apart from asking a bunch of 'joe public' for their opinion, especially now they have done away with the 'double jeopardy' rule in the UK ? With all these miscarriages of justice, the whole thing is obviously not working is it ?

I did jury duty two weeks ago. I liked it. I found the man "Not Guilty" even tho I knew he was. I did it to make the powers that be mad. I won. I loved it.

Until we develop machines that can tell with absolute certain then the Jury remains the best way. But two things need to happen with it as it stands now.
1.Need to correct the why judges get bought off on the big cases.
2.Attorneys need to pay for the others fees when they loose.
This would stop all the suits being filed for anything just to try to get money.

It is not working. It never did, but it's better than nothing. If you're looking for perfect justice (there shouldn't be any other kind in my opinion) or perfect anything, you won't get it from man. Imperfection cannot beget perfection, can it? Not where I come from. Good question. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

The (13 1/2 RULE) :) 12 jurors+1 judge and a 1/2 fast chance, is what we need. Laws today suck!!

I am not a big fan of having a bunch of people judging you in a court of law, but the system we have now is better than any other one I've seen or imagined.

The jury system has warts, but wherever you put the power it can be misused by corruption and/or ignorance.

Jury system is democratic. The only thing worse is everything else. Keep it.
