I can't believe that these people are such tight wades, most of these people could put a nickle up there butt and a week later you would have 5 pennies. My mom is a waitress and she works very hard for her tips, and I'm sure that the people who work the buffet work very hard as well, i tip no less the 20% when i go out no matter what. Servers clean your mess up and bus tables and set them back up again, they do so much of the behind the scene's stuff that it is a very hard job to do. If you leave less then 5 bucks at a table minimum then you should be shot for being such a tight ***.

I usually leave a 20% or better tip for good service. If the service is poor it goes down. The worst I've ever tipped was when I was 16. I was at a restaurant with a guy friend from school. The waitress was slow, rude and insulting (she actually said that we were "probably on some date where I was going to become yet another knocked up teenager"). We gave her 15 cents, all in pennies, in the bottom of the water glass.
I don't feel that a tip is "required". It's earned. With good service I ALWAYS tip well. If I can't afford to leave a good tip, I can't afford to eat out.

The $2.38 is correct....
In some states (TX & PA for example) if you are a Tipped employee then the employer is only required to pay you HALF of the minimum wage, but in other states (Oregon, for example) tipped employees get paid the full minumum wage.
It's easy to figure which is the type of state you live in as it is a requirement for employers to have the federal minimum wage laws posted at your workplace, just look and see what it says about tipped employees for your state.
At any rate, for buffets I tip 10-15% and for full-service I tip 15-20%.

As a matter of fact, I do tip the regular 15-20% tip when I eat at a buffet. I think the servers there do ***more work*** than waitstaff. Waitstaff doesn't have to remove as many plates mid-meal as buffet servers so yes, I think buffet servers do more and therefore shoudl receive comparable or better tips.
Also, buffet servers usually are available consistently throughout the meal, moreso than waiters. In a nutshell, I can find my buffet servers faster than I can find waiters in most cases.
It has also been my experience that buffet servers are more personable than waitresses in a lot of cases.
Personality counts when you're trying to earn tips.

Fifteen to 20 p.c. is widely used. except you're affordable, then 10% is possibly the norm. I tip 20% for fairly stable provider. yet 15% is the first, as reported by utilising different answerers. you additionally can carry around those employer-card-sized "tip tables" and that they're going to determine the tip for you. i think of the levels on those enjoying cards are from 10 to 20 p.c.. Oh, and if I pay for the meal wi/a credit card, yet leave funds for a tip, i will write in the observe "funds" on the tip line on the credit card slip.

Yes always.
In a buffet style place the servers also have more tables to deal with at one time than in a regular place because they don't have to spend time taking orders, so they have more people to help at any given time.
Always tip your server !! yeah !!

I start with $20 tip, no matter what type of restaurant I go to. If you do good, you get the $20 otherwise $1 starts to deduct from your tip if you don't provide good service. If you end up with nothing, that tells how well of a server you were.

I know I used to work at Bob Evans. You barely got any tips there either.I was a nice, sincere, and worked very hard for my money. I did everything for my customers. Others did too. I will never be a waitress ever again.

First off, if someone told you they only made $2.38 an hour, they lied. The U.S. minimum wage for anyone over the age of 14 is currently over $5. The amount that I tip the waitress/waiter depends on their service. If they act like they don't want to serve me and they don't care, I will throw a couple dollars on the table. If they are friendly and act as if they are happy to serve my family and I, yes I will tip the regular 15% tip.
