Of course we are dear. But don't tell anyone I said it, it would reduce the shock value if I couldn't do it myself. Yes, America is no different than the empires that preceded it. There were specific stages and phases each former empire of the world went through, from (1)emergence, to (2)stabilizing itself, to (3)hitting it's peak, (4)going through the rocky period, (5)lackluster, (6)extremist patriotism in fervent efforts at self-preservation, (7)slow burn-out, and finally (8)collapsing while bowing out to the next world power or empire that rode it's own coat tails ( either willingly or by being forced to) not so long ago, but got off just as it was failing. Right about now, we're at Stage 6, quickly approaching stage 7, but not quite there yet. The only thing that really separates America from all the other imperialistic super-powers that preceded it is how quickly we went through these stages. Ya see we started to become a more influential force in world politics and eventually a world power right about when the Industrial Revolution was in full swing. We rode that high for quite some time, but it left very little room for us to grow and learn to adapt to each of the imperial stages as I like to call them. Britain was before us, and before them was Rome. They both went through those stages, but they lasted longer because of their circumstances. Throughout the duration of their hey-day, the world remained generally unchanged, technology, culture, idealisms, politics, ethical stand-points, even the balance of power and the division of individual social castes remained pretty much the same from start to finish. This allowed Britain and Rome, Egypt, China (in it's area of the world) and the likes thereof to grow into these stages and live them out to their fullest. Humanity in general wasn't quite ready for all the drastic changes that occurred from the late 19th to the mid 20th centuries, but we did our best to adapt, b/c there was no way to avoid it really. But it still threw a wrench in how the world as a whole operated. Yes we're on our way to the gutters of future history lessons, but it was partially because we came up at an inopportune time for proper growth.

Darn why not invade Venezuela and get your clout back. Or maybe build some factories and make something rather than consume Chinese goods indescriminantly. We got less clout because money talks and we are 10 trillion in debt with billions in deficit every year and Bush tells the world in 2012 we will balance the budget that wont wash. And basically torture isnt cool in just about everyones book neither are secret renditions. The CIA operative should get some serious time in an Egyptian prison.

Yes, but the fact is, there's nothing unnatural about this. The world has seen empires rise and fall. The Greeks, the Babylonians, the Egyptians, the Romans, etc., they have all come and gone. During those times, they thought that they could maintain their power indefinitely.

We in the modern times have this mentality that just because every corner of the earth has mostly been discovered and every nation has settled down, that it will go on like this forever. Remember that history repeats itself, what came up must eventually go down. It's all some sort of a cycle. Today, it may be the US. Tomorrow it may be the EU or China. But the next day, who knows??

LOL to all previous answers, tards.

And, the US has NEVER been the worlds only super power. Read the history of the United Nations, how it was created, why it was created, who is in it.

The United States , after its rough and bloody start, has always been a place for people to dream of living, yes, mostly second and third world countries now adays, but a few first world ones still. Why? Because we dont run around in huge sects and mobs killing our own, yes crime and murder happens, but not genocide.
You know the rest of the reasons why the US is great. You know you do.

As for the happenings of late, with the CIA, thats info that should be "common knowledge" to people. Think about it, a person of govermental interest justs "disappers" , come on.

As for Iran, you think it is only the US they are laughing at? OMG lets see what happens when the make a nuke, two nukes, countless nukes... Is one pointed at you? Think about that one too.

As for the US being a world power, hell yes we are, because if it wasnt for the United States of America , you would all be speaking german now. Think about that one as well.

***EDIT***
The answer that follows mine is acceptable and i see your point.

Yes, the US is losing its clout as a superpower.
A superpower should be a leader and a visionary. Your current government is arrogant and reactionary.
Politically, environmentally and militarily you have alienated yourselves from the rest of the developed world.
It would be just to act differently from the rest of the world if you had cause. (This would be visionary.) However, it has been proven that you take action without cause (eg. Iraq.)
Too many of your policies are driven by the almighty dollar. (Military policies, environmental policies etc.) Meanwhile, you have extreme poverty within your own country. This poverty has lead to extraordinary levels of violent crime and drug use.
Many superpowers throughout history collapsed when they started to focus less on domestic affairs and more on foreign affairs.
You are falling from your pedestal.

this is taking a on a similar time as to totally show up , however the indisputable fact that u.s. is loosing this is place is real and is barely made extra visble by utilising the undertaking in Iraq. the exterior international has often seen the west [u.s.] as an conceited bully.in this ligth they see u.s. as a meddler who in basic terms strives on self based reasons. till now the autumn of the U.S. there became right into a perceived stability of comments and the international's primary distribution of wealth became into mostly localised to 3 places. Now , the undertaking is diverse, worlds have unfold out, western sort training has thrived nicely and to a great quantity human beings can now voice their grieviances in one way or yet another. Secondly, because of the fact the thought of nicely worth linked to an entity relies upon on how that entity is seen to be correct in micro and macro real existence situations, u.s. which became into as quickly as the international's determination best buddy [ economically ,politically etc] now have a number of of others to guard. From my own observations, an get right of entry to visa and different comfortably mandatory minor asisstances are plenty extra complicated to acquire from the U. S..So, the international seems to China, the ecu states fantastically the united kingdom as equivalent possibilities for issues like international financing. Financing has additionally gotten a clean haven in the UAE [DUBAI], and because that's the bedrock of non-public and guy or woman advancements and actualisation, interest and stable will in direction of a in all hazard "beside the point" bully is grossly minimised. ultimately, this is nicely worth observe that u.s. no count if nicely-known or no longer is amazingly correct in at present's international and could acquire that honour. yet her approaches of enforcing that choose has been often without attention in terms of interior of sight jurisprudential psychology and socio-ideology. This has painted this incorrect subject for u.s. at present.

Yes, because of arrogance and greed. Imagine that we not gotten engaged in our current follies, but had rather spent half of the amount on creating low tech solutions for clean water, food production, distribution of medicine and medical skill - then shared these freely in the areas of the world with greatest need. I believe that would have a more profound effect on eradicating terrorism than our current policy, which will likely create generations of hatred. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...

Technically...America is and will remain for sometime the worlds only superpower..But you have to understand being asuperpower doesnt mean u can go around invading one country after the other. Afghanistan was justified...yes the taliban had to be removed. but iraq?! i think it was apersonal vendetta by bush as well as the oil factor..Thank God this idiot...i mean bush is limited to another two years....hes already destroyed americas image. As an outsider let me tell u this....I ADMIRE AMERICA... THE PEOPLE....But what pisses me off is your administration...especially the current one...

Our worst enemy on losing face are the liberals in our own country. If the world is watching our own people denigrate and speak badly of our president then what should we expect them to do. When Clinton was president I did not care for him or his immoral ways, but he was my president and was due the respect the position demands. Bush is our president and is due our respect when everyone in the world is watching. We can say what we like and question him here at home, but calling him stupid and ignorant and such things as that so that the rest of the world can hear it is shameful. What must the world think of the majority of this country's people if they would elect a man like that?
