My laptop overheats easily. It overheated and shut off. Usually, I just turn it back on, make sure it's not going to get overheated again, and continue. Occasionally I have to do a system restore. It just happened, and I tried to restore. The restore went through and windows is telling me everything is peachy, when I know that it is not in the least. The restore didn't work - folders, files of all kinds, just gone, but windows insists that the restore worked (I know I picked a restore point that would restore my information).

There was one error - here it is:

Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - System could not allocate the required space in a registry log.

This is very urgent. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Yikes!

Sounds to me like your profile was not able to be loaded. In other words, all of the data that was saved to that profile is lost. The weird thing is the registry message, I wasn't aware that the registry had a size limit....

I have never seen anything like that happen, but I don't doubt the possibility.

If the saved data is really important, you can bring it to a service center and they can do data recovery on the files. Often times you can get back 99% of the data.

But you have to ask yourself if its worth $150+?

Are you using multiple partitions? How much free diskspace do you have left in your hard drive?

Your PC shutting down without a warning can corrupt files, making System Restore not being able to restore.

it sounds like your at your limit for allocated system memory for restore points. this is likely because you restore so often and each does take up some room.

i am not sure exactly where, but there is a setting for allocating the space limit for restore points and you would need to find it and increase the limit i think.
