In the past teaching was one of the noblest professions. It is difficult and cumbersome. One day I came across this piece of poetry. It translates as follows:

“Stan up and pay the teacher his due respect”
“As a teacher is so close to being a prophet”

What are your comments?

PS: Serious people only. Foul language won’t take you anywhere.

That is such a great compliment. The deep me was thinking along those lines when I needed to keep going in a truly stressful job. I taught for 5 years because I loved to be a 'prophet.' I taught literature, creative writing, poetry, anything I could use to spread wisdom to my high schoolers. They needed so much love, so much guidance. They needed to learn what it takes to pass the tests so they can move on. Most were from low income families. So many had low self esteem and only 30% of our freshmen were expected to graduate. Some of the kids did everything they could to fight their own progress. The artists had the worst time of anyone because their spirits are fighting to be free in a place where rules rule. Many many days I left the school building never seeing daylight, and my soul felt completely drained. But I felt fulfilled and I felt a calling. So I called it my 'missionary job' and contributed as much as I could, giving it 100 % until the stress from administrative pressures sent me packing. The administrators don't want teachers who think. They are greedy and lazy. They want robot sheep yes men. I did not fit in, but teachers like me come and go in the system. While we are there, we tend to the minds and the souls, hoping for some survivors.
