Geography - "geopolitical history of the USA".....

I would say the geography is the reason for the existance of the USA. Heres why:
1 - the British were after a new land to farm, produce and create new markets for products. It was far enough away to make European items seem exotic and it produced its own exotic items.

2 - the coal, forests and natural resource (all apart of the geography) led to the ability of the fledgling nation to rapidly industrialise.

3 - the civil war was fought over North/South issues (honestly the least of which was slavery)

4 - being removed - literally - from the politics of 19th century World Powers - i.e. Europe - allowed the USA to grow strong through a policy of isolationism - even though the fought a war aginst Spain and Mexico....

So essentially without its geographical attributes the USA would have remained jsut 13 states on the Eastern Seaboard of North America and poissibly Mexico would have been the historical World power....

nastions and empire are defined as much by their geography as by their peoples.

The civil war was fought between the southern states(colonies) and the northern states(colonies), the south needed slave labor and the north didnt and that is what started the war. The south wanted to secede from the nation.
