Lets see...

Formal - Tux
Semi Formal - Suit
Casual - everything else

Sound like you are looking for semi formal and casual.

For semiformal I would suggest a suit with a couple of different pants. If you are going to own only one suit, its best to have it dark so you wear it to funerals. Avoid white shirts. If you take you jacket, the white is just glaring.

For casual, khaki pants a nd a gold shirt look good. Wearing a solid color T and plaid shirt (open also seems popular but does not look as nice.

Good Luck!

Well basicaly u need to know your body measurement first of all...If you're thin, you should go for bright colors to make u look fit n beefy, horizontal patterns or lines is good in showing a balanced expension to your figure, and also minimal printed shirts will be good enough to make your appearance looked interesting, and make sure to get the correct size of shirts or pants everytime in order to avoid you looking rather smaller or bigger than usual... and if ur fat, earth toned colors is the most suitable in order to lessened the huge impact on othe people's eyes, go vertical lines or patters if you'r planning to get a decent shirt or anything formal. Full printed shirt is the best solution if ur a bit fat, coz it helps to create some 'visual movement' that is pleasing to the eyes...Or you can even change your approach by trying ethnical concept outfits, maybe something that is Asean, European or African. They're not only looked good and confortable to wear, they can also install an element of interest to anybody who saw you wearing it, by thinking that you'r a very creative and interesting person to have the guts to wear something interesting and out of the norm...Happy Shopping!!!

Don't do purple or pink. Blah! Green (if you have green eyes), or blue, black, brown...those look really great. If you do 2 tones just make sure you don't do red and green or something that would look weird, like that.
