I have a daughter in College and she wants an 30gb MP3 player with video for her birthday. What is the best store to buy it from and should I get the warranty? What is the best price? With all you Yahooligans out there, I should be able to get some good info fast! Thanks in advance for your comments..

It depends on what your daughter wants out of it. If she wants all sorts of options and better video playback is important then the Zen is better. It accepts more common formats of video. So if she's just downloading videos for free from the net, then the Zen would work much better with them.

If she is less technical or not as concerned with the video, the iPod could be more her thing. One possible plus is that getting certain videos to the iPod is very easy because you can just download them from the iTunes store. You do, of course, have to pay for them.

Overall, the Zen is technically better but some people just like the iPod for the fact that it's the iPod and that's all they know and all they want to know.

iPod pricing seems to be the same anywhere, so I won't include it but at the moment the Zen is $220 at Circuit City, which is about the same as buying online, but easier to return. Circuit City also offers an accidental warranty that would be good to get if your daughter isn't all that careful with her stuff. That's where I got my girlfriend her Zen Vision.

The Zen has an fm radio and a voice recorder on it, which the Ipod does not. Also I believe the Zen doesn't need Itunes to be able to put music onto it. This makes it easier to load downloaded songs and videos onto it. Which is another thing, the Zen allows support for more video formats (Such as AVI, DivX 4 and 53, XviD4, MPEG-1, -2, -4, -SP, WMV9, and Motion-JPEG, etc...) while the Ipod only supports MPEG4 and QuickTime. Also the accessories for Ipod are also really overpriced. If the budget is tight I'd go for the Zen.

Go with the creative. They are rated better on consumerreports.org. They are more durable, and last longer. ANther thing is you can delete songs on the creative but not on the ipod. go to walmart.com and look at the creative they are priced pretty well. They also sound great.

The Creative (your better choice) is on sale at www.circuitcity.com! $199 for the black, or $219 if she likes colors.
