Idol is too low.

From an electronic standpoint:

IAC valve could be dirty or stuck. MAF sensor could be mal-functioning or dirty. I don't know that engine, but the IAC valve is usually on the throttle body. It opens and closes to allow air to by-pass the throttle body to control idol speed. It usually is located right by where the throttle cable attaches. The MAF sensor is in an aluminum housing near the air cleaner. It measures how much air is coming into the the engine, and what the temperature and humidity of the air is. The engine computer uses it to calculate how much fuel to inject into the cylinders or throttle body.

From a mechanical standpoint:

If the intake is leaking, the car will run too lean and stall out at idol. Check from the air filter to the intake manifold and make sure everything is attached snugly. Check for vaccumn leaks near the intake manifold. Fords usually have a short length of vaccumn hose that attaches at the EGR valve. This short hose will develop a hole over time from heat exposure. I once had a car that the leak was bad enough to make the engine stall at idol. This would also not happen unless the engine was warmed up because the egr doesn't get significant vaccumn when the engine is cold.

There are about a million other reasons for the car to stall, these are just a few ideas.

I am service tech for a Ford dealership. Without more information about the conditions under which you are experiencing the problem, I would point you in the direction of the IAC (idle air control) valve. There IS NO carburetor on a 1993 model. The 4.0L models that year had some issues with fuel injectors though so you might start there too if the vehicle runs rough when not at idle. You could also have a vacuum leak. Without more information, that is the best I can give you not to send you on a wild goose chase on less likely problems. Are there any check engine lights on? If so have you read the codes from them? When does this happen? All the time? Only in the morning? Wet or dry weather or both? If the vehicle runs smoothly but only refuses to idle, the most likely probability is the IAC valve.

It could be a fuel delivery problem, or an electronic problem. If you dont take it to a shop, start with the basics. Tune up parts, new filters, mainly a fuel filter. Fuel treatment. It could be dirty fuel injectors. If the basics do not work, then get it scoped. Is there a check engine light on? If so, its probably electronic, I.E. sensors. The scope is cheaper than randomly replacing parts, but the basics should be current anyways, I.E. tune up parts, filters, ect. Good luck, and if you still need help shoot me an email.

yes fuel injector dirty or clogged. buy injector cleaner and add to gas tank then fill tank. works in about 10 minutes if that is the problem.

if you have to keep your foot on the gas for the car not to stall its the injectors.i had the same problem and the cleaner solved that problem.

hope it helps
