it is the theory that our life is repeated forever like a tape. we re-experience this life over and over down to the tiniest little detail. and it stays that way for all of eternity. and NOthing in our life ever changes. it was the central topic for alot of nietzsches writings an thoeries.

the thought is horrible and very disturbing. it makes life love and everything else meaningless. i dont know about ou guys but my life has not exactly what you would describe pleasent.

Sounds more like a script for a b movie to me.

This idea does not leave any room for personal spiritual advancement. I don't think it is worth worrying about.

Love and blessings Don

1. Don´t Panic !

2. I know exactly what you mean.

3. It´s going to work just fine

I am sure that we are living in the proverbial ´Interesting Times´, and that there is a heightened sense of the negative, most of the news seems to be ´bad´, inexplicably there are still wars, famine, drought, and disease all over the world, when there is simply no reason or excuse for these scourges. We have a President of the ´Most Powerful Country in the World´proudly declaring himself to be the ´War President´ ! And the citizens of that country apparently accepting this monstrosity as if it were somehow correct or proper.

It would seem that on both the macro and the micro scales that everything just keeps repeating itself. It isn´t.

I am convinced that there are subtle shifts occuring at an ever-increasing rate, and that this rate will become exponential over the next few years, and that it will lead to a major and most radical shift in human evolution. A shift the like of which we have never seen before.

Look at our children, they are growing in intellectual terms at a rate that we cannot contain, nor fully comprehend them. So much so that in many places we are drugging therm ( ritalin for example ) to try to rein them in ! Take comfort, these same children will show us the way.

If you are a child ( in legal definition terms ) don´t look to the external world as you perceive it for the answers, look into your own heart, for there you ( and all of us ) will find all the answers we will ever need.

1. Life is everything
2. Love is the ´force´ that drives it all
3. Nothing is meaningless, everything has purpose, no matter how obscure things may seem from time to time.
4. Every apparently ´negative´experience will eventually reveal it´s actual, and positive, intent and purpose .
5. The ´Life´experience could be construed as being rather like a roll of movie tape, in that ´Time´is not what it seems ( what is ? ), but this does not mean that everthing is just being meaninglessly repeated over and over, on the contrary we are moving to a place where we can actually select the experience we prefer....or not.

So cheer up, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

The reason why it was important to Nietzsche was because the possibility of such a scenario sharpens either side of fate: whether you are a master or slave depends on your reaction to just such a possibility. If you cannot face a possibly infinite return of the same-- if you would not WANT to live this life again -- then you don't truly love your life for what it is. One who's noble enough to say, "let's watch the tape again! I LOVE this part!" is enjoying life authentically, even if confined.

So it's no coincidence that many here find the possibility disturbing...you resent life, you endure it for the sake of the reward of tranquiity; a nihilist will always choose to stop the tape.

What you are describing is an old theory - it is the belief of *eternal return* - which in fact is a doctrine of despair|

Many ancient cultures believed it, such as the Chinese| The meaning of the movie 2001, which everyone has such a hard time figuring out, was eternal return|

However, Christianity gave us a way out of this impasse| It was St. Augustine who brilliantly refuted that horrible doctrine|

For Christian Faith brought a new philosophy of time into the world in which time was not circular but *linear|* - that it has one direction and that nothing is repeated| If we went through a hard life, and endured it for the sake of Jesus, it will be forever past us, and we would be welcomed into His Kingdom to be happy there forever without end.

Wow. That is a strange thing to think about. I hope That life is something different. I kind of hope for reincarnation. But I guess I choose to accept that I have no idea what this life is about or about what happens to us after. I personally believe that regardless of what life "means" it can't hurt us. I believe in a benevolent power who takes care of us. Do I know this to be true for sure? No. I hope it is. I feel it is.I know that life sucks some times, I overall, I think it's pretty good. I choose to believe that death is the same way. It is an interesting topic of converstion though. i would stop giving this idea the power to make you nervous though. Either this is the way it is, and you can't change it, or it's something entirely different and so a waste of valuable time being sressed about it. Anywho . . . Hope things get more pleasant for you.

its not possible, there are too many variables in the universe acting on each moment, thereby exerting enough momentary influence to make a change-- an even impercievable change would snowball in time, causing a "butterfly effect" if you will. even if your life was repeated like a tape, universal variables (such as planetary alignment) would be enough to throw it off from the original version.

There is a theory about replication that says in clones there exists enough errors that a copy of a copy of a copy would be too flawed to exist. so logically, this means that a copy of anything would contain enough errors that if continually replicated it would become too flawed to exist. (an example would be inbreeding)

I've always thought that history repeating itself and other such repetition theories is just a matter of making the same mistakes over and over whatever the reasons maybe. I don't honestly think we will really live out our lives over and over till eternity but then again if this is all just a repetition, we don't really recall the last time we lived out this period now, do we? So no worries about that. Just worry about ending up repeating your mistakes for now cos thats what I end up doing and worrying about! =( But as with all such things, you never know!

Many of nietzsches writing can be taken in many different ways.

This one aspect to my understanding is one way of looking at the concept of heaven and hell, if your life and the things that you do in it have been 'bad' then from this point on it will always repeat itself, locking you in to a cycle of punishment for your bad life. This is not to say that it is all your fault for your bad life just that it is what it is.

In effect, to my understanding I could be wrong, it is a sort of wake up call. Make your life better now or you will be repeating your bad life forever.

Hope this helps.

Life is not meaningless nor repeated for eternity. God has given each one of us a purpose in life. Read the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.

Our life is created by our beliefs projected through our thoughts, so when we monitor them, we have already changed our tape. And we start leading an intuitive life rather than an intellectual life, that old tape is destroyed forever, as we are renewing our life tape every moment then.
