Definition
aka:weblog. A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links

Information
A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people.

People maintained blogs long before the term was coined, but the trend gained momentum with the introduction of automated published systems, most notably Blogger at blogger.com. Thousands of people use services such as Blogger to simplify and accelerate the publishing process.

Blogs are alternatively called web logs or weblogs. However, "blog" seems less likely to cause confusion, as "web log" can also mean a server's log files.

A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order.

The term "blog" is derived from "Web log." "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

The term blog is commonly acredited to the web-journal pioneer Travis Petler. He coined the term on his personal blog in early September of 1997 while studying at Brown University. His use of the word spread to other college campus' where other weblogs were present

Wikipedia note that as of November 2006, blog search engine Technorati was tracking nearly 60 million blogs.

Before blogging became popular, digital communities took many forms, including Usenet, e-mail lists and bulletin board systems (BBS). In the 1990s, Internet forum software, such as WebEx, created running conversations with "threads". Threads are topical connections between messages on a metaphorical "corkboard". Some have likened blogging to the mass-observation movement of the mid-20th century.

Web Log shortened to Blog. Just an on line diary or journal sometimes with the ability to add pictures, and links to video media (eg. YouTube). A lot of websites offer this feature now to their visitors as it is more interactive than a guest book, since other users can (if given the correct permissions) comment, or rate other people's blogs.

Blogs can be decorated with RSS feeds and also photo albums.
