I live in Coffs Harbour (Australia) and need to purchase some spigots to dispense liquid from large containers. My plan was to drill a hole, attach the spigot and then seal with silicon.

I checked at Bunnings Warehouse. They have some that fit a water cistern and cost $14 because they are a replacement part for a water purifier. This is not what I am looking for. Don't need anything fancy, just a plain plastic spigot.

Bunnings also has some twist type plastic taps for Jerricans, again not what I am looking for -- to hard to turn and cost too much. I just need a basic spigot that you push the lever and water flows.

Still haven't found any, is there anyone out there who knows specifically where to find them?

FYI--"SILICONE" SUCH AS RTV OR SIMILAR PRODUCTS--SOME OF THESE CONTAIN CYANIDE TO PREVENT MOLD AND MILDEW AND WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS WHEN USED WITH EDIBLE PRODUCTS/FOOD AND DRINK. (RTV STANDS FOR "ROOM TEMPERATURE VULCANIZING"). SEALASTIC IS ANOTHER POPULAR BRAND NAME.

Any kind of home improvement store should have something that will work. If you plan on using them for beverages, or liquids such as gasoline, hold up. You cannot use just any plastic for either beverages or solvents like gasoline, what ever. Sealing with silicone probably won't work either. Find some that you can are threaded that you can fit rubber washers from the plumbing department on. some Teflon tape on the threads and tightening a rubber washer down tight son both sides of the container should work OK. I think i would go for brass or copper though, they hold up and wont accidentally break or fail. Those made of plastic are prone to breakage and failure. You will be money ahead in the long run to buy them instead of the plastic ones. copper and brass ones also meet the requirements for food vending, if that is what you have in mind.

Ask your hardware store to order them.

I have gotten them in polypropylene and in PVC. Depending on the stuff you are going to dispense, you may want to research what material to get.

Note that there are better ways to affix the spigot... I recommend a threaded one made to go on with a sealing washer and a nut inside the container if possible. There's also "plastic welders" which are just oversize high temp hot melt glue guns. Silicone sealing it on won't hold much pressure.
