Three kids from Bristol went for a walk. About a mile into the walk, they came to a deep, wide river.
There was no bridge. They didn't have a boat or raft, or any materials to make one. None of them could swim.

How did they cross the river?

The person who gives me the best answer along with a valid reason backing it up will get the 10 points.

I think there was no water in the river.

it had dried.

so the walked through the river and hence crossed it.

There is a contradiction here. You said the kids are from Bristol, yet there is no bridge over the river. England is a highly civilized country, so they can walk along the river in either direction and find a bridge.

Knowing that big rivers come from little creeks, they walked upstream until the water was narrow enough to cross without swimming or a craft.

Obvously they had come prepared for crossing. They just climbed on to a tree on the first side and threw a manila rope to another tall tree on the other side and rappled their way across and left the rope intact for them to return.

Another possibility( My own experience) They just sought help of a farmer nearby and took his water buffaloes to swim across the river. The farmer returned with his buffaloes.

they walk to the end and then cross everything has a start and a finish even though it might take awhile there has to be a small/shallow start /entry point
