If its a persuasive essay, the first step is to PICK A SIDE. Does it bring out the worst or best? And then support it. I think it would be easier to say it brings out the best. When there are disasters, it is obvious that people come together in such a crisis. So anyways, you already have two examples listed, 9/11 and tsunami, just do a little research so you can provide an accurate example, that wont be hard. If you just absolutely need help email me and ill help you out. But you should be fine. Just talk about how it can unite strangers and that people will risk their own lives for others etc. What an inspirational paper you have the opportunity to write! The first sentence also should be catching. But yeah good luck! And that is seriously PLENTY of time.

There are many examples of both.
Nine months after a New York City blackout in 1964, there was a notable surge in births in the city. Years later, blackouts were accompanied by an increase in robberies and other crime.
The 1985 in Mexico City brought out solidarity among the people not seen before or since. Just as in the Katrina hurricane in New Orleans (2005), the government did not act, but the people did.
Wars are bad situations, and many people (soldiers and others) often act terribly. Rape, pillaging, child prostitution, murder, robbery, torture, and genocide are all associated with war. Wars, or more specifically battles and skirmishes, also produce heroes.

Argue it both ways, since neither can be proven. Example of best: Gotta go with Rudy Guliani 9/11. Worst: Gen. MacArthur on Dec. 7, 1941 - had a breakdown, his LTs were pleading with him to order the dispersment of the ships before the Japanese attacked (they had just attacked Pearl Harbor) He went in his room and closed the door -- gave no order. Hours later, ships were attacked. For the third, use something personal, you or someone you know either rising to the challenge or pulling a MacArthur.

Just like you said: 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and Iraq
Hurricane Katrina brought the best in people because people started donating like crazy to help those less fortunate. Many people in california housed people while houses were being rebuilt. Many people volunteered to help in New Orleans and save stranded people.
9/11 was neutral. It was helped by the fact that people felt a patriotic need to help protect against terrorists so many more people joined that army. But it started the Iraq war which so many people were against.
The Iraq controversy itself brings out the bad in people, specifically President Bush. Sending more troops to Iraq is a bad decision claiming innocent lives.
It purely depends on the people who are at the situation, procrastinator.

during the floods in mumbai , a very unseen side of the people was seen when authorities were helpless, the people started distributing food - drink to others stuck in the situation some even handed strangers their phones to contact thier homes. They even offered them shelter until the floods subsided.Truly this brought out the best side of mumbaikars
even in the recent serial railway blasts , people not caring about themselves helped injured and dead The authorities were still arriving when the common people carried injured to hospitals
the third incident is that of the recent racism attack on shilpa shetty when sikh students were kicked and assualted and bullied by a racist gang , no one cared a damn but just a verbal abuse on a film actor brought out a load of complaints
it is really true that a bad situation bringa out the best and worst among people
