soap makes little difference rather its for cold or not. whites will not be whiter in cold water, but delicate fabrics will last longer in cold water, sheets and towels use hot, blouses and lingerie use cold, the laundry soap is very little if any different, thats just a ploy to get you to buy it.

If you are washing whites why not add a little bleach? Why not use very warm water?
The cold water washing will disinfect better if you use bleach. I always felt like very warm to hot got the sheets and towels cleaner. I don't use hot only. Some things might shrink if it's extremely hot.

I don't use bleach at all for my whites. Bleach is a chlorine product and will turn whites yellow. My son played baseball for years and each year the coach would always pick out white baseball pants. Well, I live in East Texas and we have RED CLAY. The best thing to wash white in....get ready....is liquid gel Cascade. Yes, the same thing you use in your dishwasher. I also worked in a uniform shop. The nursing students always got their white uniforms dirty, dingy, gray.....I typed out the instructions for washing nursing uniforms in Cascade. They all turned out beautiful. Start your washing machine on low HOT water setting. Add in the Cascade (I just squirt it in the water, I never measure) Let the machine start to agitate....Add whites...and continue to wash....if you need to raise water level now is the time. DO NOT POUR THE CASCADE ONTO THE WHITES. When my son's team would line up before the game...my son's pants were the whitest. It's also great for socks, under ware, anything that is ALL white. It's also great for cleaning white bathtubs. You will be surprised. Another thing is to take the lid off your toilet...add the Cascade..flush. Let the Cascade water sit in you toilet...then flush it out....you will have a snow white toilet. I have NEVER found anything else to clean whites.

you should add a cap or two of bleach for your white towels..
for the ones you use on your face for removing make up you can presoak in a bowl with a little more bleach to get the colors out.
or oxy clean would probably work with the cold water to help whitten your whites. haven't tried it though.
I use cold water and regular liquid laundry soap..

wash whites in hot. If they are all pure white, add a few splashes of bleach from time to time as well.
