Drink in a lot of water or taken in a lot of fluids a day or two before you are due. Don’t miss a meal during this time. It is mostly due muscle fatigue or dehydration. You can also look for information in the web. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html

I don't know how severe your pain is and possibly a case of Dysmenorrhea, an excess of menstrual fluid, which is what I encounter. If this is a case, don't panic. There's nothing wrong but to play safe I would check your family doctor. As for not using an OTC, and speaking from personal experience, and you're going to think this sounds bizarre but.. the opposite will work, drink a caffeinated soda with 2 aspirin, you'll be flying high in less than a half hour, just be sure to have extra sanitary pads if you use those. Good luck!

Taking pills to reduce pain prolongs the period. (i.e. instead of 5 days, increases to 6 days). The most tried and trusted method of all, through my own experience, is extreme stomach exercise ... I push myself for about a half an hour solid without breaking and by the time I am finished, the pain is gone for the entire duration of the period.
PS: (After the exercise, I have it in my head that I have developed a six pack, the only thing missing is that little plastic thingy that keeps it together!)

There are some dietary changes you could make, for example, eliminating chocolate has been shown to make a difference in symptoms. Regular exercise has been shown to make a positive difference.
Also, rub the lymph glands on the sides of your thighs regularly and esp. when you have your period/the cramps begin to disperse the toxins collected there.

Wow, you really want to suffer dont you?? you will not even take OVER the counter medications??? Try a hot pad, yoga and meditation. If you want something that works, ibuprofen and birth control pills but I am sure that is not anything you would be interested in

Keep your abdomin and lower back warm. Hot water bottle or hot pack will do the trick. I have also been told that using tampons can actually make the cramps worse. Makes no difference to me, but everyone's different.
