Did your local media fill you in? Mine sure didn't. I live in a Metropolitan city too.
So, my question is, does your paper give you the news, or distract you with irrelevant crap, like mine does???????????

I think it is great that you are questioning the media and looking deeper. Because of the timelines that the news cycle operates on, the people who bring us news often have to give us only the tip of the iceberg and rely on soundbytes. If you want deeper analysis of news stories, I suggest the weekly or monthly publications like The New Yorker(not limited to NY stories) or The Nation or Harper's. Those papers have a liberal slant so on the right there is The Atlantic

I can remember when I used to pick my newspaper up from the drive-way before I made coffee . Most days I run over it on my way out .
It's all an arranged agenda . Even the comic strips are filled with propanganda . It's like filling our heads with mush . And if that's not bad enough- now we get a free paper they can't sell...which gets filed in the big green can ..under TRASH .

My paper, like most others, doesn't even get the real news before they put it in print. Journalists are in such a scramble to get their story in 'first'. They often leave out the most important parts of a situation because it's not known yet. Wouldn't it be nice if a newspaper printed a lot of good stories, feel good stories, instead of doom and gloom. Those stories are out there too. Then maybe people wouldn't be asking, on Yahoo Answers, how to commit suicide.
