OK so this is going to sound bad but just answer the question. So I am 29 and have been dating this woman for 6 years. She has done some untrustworthy things to me over the years (cheated, lied on several occassions) and while she has done a lot of good, her mother has been divorced 3x and she grew up in a broken home. Anyway....we are thinking of getting married, but I make a lot of money and will make a lot more in the future and want to protect myself if she ever f's up (like cheats or lies or tried to leave me for another man). If I do something bad...fine..my fault, but if she just goes crazy I don't want her having much. Anyway...thinking of getting a prenup...anyone know how specific I can be? I live in California.

Smart thinking. I'm sure you can get something iron clad. Have you consulted your lawyer?

To me, don't even get marry if you are already have doubt for a divorce. Seems like she messed you up many times and who know it might happen again in the future, after married. That might cost you big time. If she is not after your money, then why need to get marry? And if she pushed you into the marriage and since you have doubt then get a prenup. If she doesn't care about the money then she won't make a big deal out of it. If after got married, you see she becomes a better wife, than you can either undo the prenup or give her as a beneficial.

i don't know how specific according to laws go, but i would personally be VERY SPECIFIC, such as alimony and child support that would be due to her regardless of your future earnings. you say you will make alot more money, but ya know what, life happens and things change, and just because you have the ability to earn top dollar doesn't necessarily mean you will be dealt the cards in which to play with, if you get my drift. while your earning potential may be great, life has a way of dealing us a bad hand on occasion so don't count your chickens before they hatch. a pre nup is a good idea though, to protect yourself and the future of any children you might be having. you could add to the pre nup some incentive just for fun, like if she never cheats on you, when she turns 60 she gets a million dollar bonus or something that will make her happy. a puppy perhaps.
anyway, good luck, i hope it works out. most women i think, love being married and are faithful to their husbands. be good to her and she will repay you ten fold.

depends on how specific you want to be. usually what you have going into marriage is yours and the same for her, the rest is what the two are willing to settle for. if you can work thing out before hand with no problems and hate or fighting,OK otherwise good luck. get attorney's for both ,less problems.
