a) Overcome the penchant for perfection in everything you do. Remember, it's more important to complete the job than to keep it pending for want of perfection.
b) Finish off the routine and simple jobs first and quickly. Very often, because they are mundane, you tend to put them off.
c) Set a timeline to complete the difficult assignments. If you are dangerously close to the deadline, submit whatever it is you have achieved.
d) Don't let your moods and happiness be dictated by the outcome of your efforts. Commonly, people procrastinate when they feel a below-par effort will lower self-esteem, bring you down in people's eyes etc. No such thing happens.

when i procrastinate its usually because something can wait. i have several little jobs that are incomplete. i stopped working on them because they werent as good or a nice a result as i wanted them to be. the best way to complete jobs is to have as many of the required needs handy that you would use for the job at hand and then break the chore down into smaller more managable jobs. for every step completed feel free to pat yourself on the back because most people see whats not done rather than what you have achieved so far. also its important to involve others by telling them your goals and/or asking for help. its always more fun when there are more people involved.

Seriously, unless there are consequences, procrastinators don't change very easily. This is one of the hardest habits to break.
The night before, I admonish myself with a strongly worded thought such as, YOU HAVE GOT TO DO THIS TOMORROW! and I give myself a reward such as, THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO! and YOU KNOW THAT WHEN YOU DO IT YOU'LL BE HAPPY THAT ITS OVER AND DONE WITH!
And that night, I do the same thing for the next thing on the to do list.
Stallions run. Mules take a bit of convincing.
Ah, well.

Mostly i have no choice... it's either do that today or it'll be too late and i'll have to deal with the consequenses. OR... if it's a choice i'll try to relax first... do something i enjoy or whatever for an hour or two and then i figure that i've had enough me time and it's time to get down to work.

What i do and I am a bad procrastinator..I make myself a reward..example: bowl of ice cream, nap,go shopping SOMETHING!! And then i do all the things I don't want to do first and then go down the list kinda of what I don't want to do the worst first and down from there. As you get down the list it gets easier..I hate to clean house so I do the WORST things first ex..cleaning the bathrooms, floors etc..And when I finish i reward myself!! Works for me!!

I force myself to work on something for ten minutes. Anybody can put up with ten minutes of work, right? Usually, I either end up finishing it right there, or I leave it half-finished and it annoys me until I get it done.
So I use anal-retentiveness to combat procrastination.

Set a goal to complete the task in a logical amount of time then just stick to it.

If you are talking about academics, I get up early in the morning at about 5 p.m. to study. If you are talking about something else, like your job, I would think it is my fate to do it and calm myself down. Somehow that mood drives me to do what I need to do.
