It was before "Operation Northwoods"

Bush repeated the same lie on 911.

I mean... it's all in how you want to define it... be it pox blankets... boston tea party... or what...

I mean... I'm sure some native Americans committed some acts that could be considered "terrorism" against other tribes before Europeans ever got here... I mean out of hundreds of tribes over hundreds of years... someone I'm sure did..

or do you mean after America was formerly founded? I'm not sure about that... there were tons of stuff during the civil war that would be borderline terrorism, at the very least, done by both sides...

The first foriegn government to officially sponsor terrorism against the United States was probably what is now Libya. As soon as we lost the protection of the British navy, the Barbary Pirates started attacking our ships in the Mediterranian. After a failed attempt at a treaty, the wars that followed are remembered as, "the shores of Tripoli," in the Marines song.

If by "Terrorism" you mean attacks by small groups, or individuals, on a large population center or high value target, I think, in all honesty, that native American Indians likely were the first group to use small group tactics, and attacks, on larger population centers, and high value targets.

Could be wrong, but it is commonly accepted that Indians were the first known group to use guerrilla tactics in combating larger forces. I think they also used such "harassment" techniques against other tribes, and white settlers as well, with the intent of causing their enemies to pack up and leave.

Note to Holden below: Slavery is a lot older than the Dutch. Lest we forget, Moses led the Jews out of slavery in Egypt about 1500 years before the Dutch were making slaves of Africans. And Indians (again) made slaves of captured enemy Indian tribe members for thousands of years, in all cultures.

The Inca also had some completely horrendous acts they committed not only on their enemies, but on their own members in ritual sacrifices (which were quite painful and bloody at times).

How far, and how wide, should we take this? Horrendous and heinous acts aren't unique to any one culture, and certainly not unique to European heritage.

Pox blankets.... Lord Jeffrey Amherst, commander of British forces in North America during the French and Indian War (1756-'63). That was the British...

Slavery? that was started by the Dutch who brought the first slaves to Jamestown colony in 1619. Or maybe the Italians / Spanish who enslaved Indians in the Carribean and South America from the get go.

The Spanish also did some pretty nasty things to the Inca and Aztecs... they murdered Montezuma in 1520.

First, define Terrorism.

"Terrorism" is in the eye of the beholder.

The Brits called the Boston Tea Party a terrorist act, and what Americans called The Boston Massacre was justified homicide to the Brits.
