I'm REALLY interested in mental problems and disorders. I LOVE reading about and watching videos about eating disorders and transgendered people... Anything that has something to do with the way people think really interests me... Oh, and stuff like OCD too... Everything like that.. I took a social psychology class in college and I LOVED it...

I DON'T however want to be a counselor or someone who listens to people and tries to help them. I just want to do research....

Also, in addition to jobs I could have, how much do they pay?

Thanks:-)

you can get an academic job...get a masters or phd in the topic of choice and then just do research and teach. If you become a professor for a fairly large university you can make good money....$100K I would say.

Why not be a psychologist or therapist at a mental health facility. You would see a wide range of illnesses which would make it interesting. If you want to do research, then take a lot of biology, physiology, anatomy, or chemistry and work for pharmaceutical companies developing medication to treat the illnesses.

I work in the legal field with mental health issues. It is also very interesting. There are many different directions you can take in the mental health field. Good luck on your search and career path.

Pharmaceutical research is a good bet...

More medications are coming out all the time. Try to get an internship at Abbott labs.

But actually I bet you would like being a medical doctor and psychiatrist. Psychiatrists don't really counsel patients like therapists. they ask a few questions and then give out the medication..... but you see the actual patients face to face.

I think you would enjoy that professional expertise.
