One of her poems inserted here. Please tell me how to go about it-
-"Fellow Birds" -
As the sun showed it's first ray of light,
I told everyone it's time to take flight,
They asked me whether the adventure would be long,
I said it would'nt be if we hum a nice little song,
Our destination is a very long flight to London,
The decision to go there was taken very sudden,
We reached there in two days, which seemed like two hours,
My friends thought to change time I had magical powers,
We settled down on an oak tree,
In a yard that was cat free,
The yard was filled with fruits,
Berries, leaves and roots,
We had a sumptuous dinner that day,
Although there were ants, we ate it anyway,
We made friends with a family of beaver,
They gave us fresh fish from the flowing river,
I love my new home, it's like a dream come true,
Go back to my old city, a job I will never do-

Wow, "sumptuous" is quite a word for a nine-year-old.

If the others are more or less like this, don't worry about publishing them. Your daughter is not a genius. Precocious, maybe -- but she's not some kind of savant who writes publishable poetry at age nine. The appropriate direction for her is to enter grammar-school poetry contests, where she'll be competing against other children her own age. Such contests abound; have her ask her teacher about them. You can win things like gift certificates, savings bonds, etc.

Every parent thinks their child is special. You're lucky, because your daughter actually is, to a degree. But at this stage, her talent is mainly something to gently nurture. What she's doing now is very whimsical and cute, but with time she may start writing more sophisticated and interesting poetry with greater proficiency -- or she may lose interest and move on to other things. She's just a kid.

I suggest you send her poems to a local, community-oriented newspaper. That could be a great first step to getting exposure and they usually love showing the talents of children.

Plus, your daughter will feel VERY proud of herself. You could save the clippings. Frame them. Send them to relatives. It will be great for her self-esteem and confidence, and encourage her to write more.
