Businesses that have international connections. Visit our plant in Madrid. Or Dusseldorf. Or Lyon. Talk to the workers, not just the execs. Get a haircut, buy some gas for your rental car, get your laundry done. Buy some socks in a local store. A good working knowledge of foreign languages opens a lot of doors. English is widely spoken, but not by the lady that sells socks. And, in any foreign country, just making a good faith attempt to speak the local language is about the friendliest thing you can do.
