I have never heard of some of the solutions you have been given. I did my own. My tub and tile was terrible. I went to my local Home Depot. I purchased a special paint for tubs, tiles, toilets.....First I cleaned the tub, removed all caulk....then used a wet sandpaper(purchased at an auto paint business). Then cleaned my tub again. Let it dry overnight. There are two containers that you have to mix for this paint. After mixing, you stir, stir, stir. Then start your painting (make sure drain and other fixtures are taped off). Let the first coat dry for 12 hours. Put the paint in the freezer. After 12 hours ( and you have already taken paint out of freezer, it's thawed, and stirred again) apply your second coat. I painted the inside and outside of my tub. You can also add color to the paint. I did my tub 3 years ago and it still looks GREAT! Yes, there are contractors to do this but they can charge $500-$900. Do it yourself. I even painted my tile around my tub. On the grout I used a roller bottle filled with Kilz. Kilz is a stain blocker. Covered all the Yellowed grout. It too also still looks great. Let the tub completely dry for 24 hours. Looks like a brand new tub, but you have the satisfaction of doing it YOURSELF! I'm not scared to trying anything. If I'm not sure how to, I get a book, video, or go on the web to find out how to. It was not hard at all.

It's a long smelly and expensive process that often wear off and never look the same if not done properly that can even ruin your tub and tiles. There are several contractors that will do it for you, you can find them in the yellow pages or on the internet in your area. If you do this make sure that you check references and check work that the person has completed before to insure that you will be getting the quality that you are seeking
