You really can't eliminate them until whatever is rotting is gone. My garden center suggested a golf club. Yup, a golf club. I found an old one and went out and "drove" them away. They still come back, but each year there are less.

I'm in southeast Texas and I had the same problem about 4 or 5 months ago. I'll be honest I haven't been walking in the yard since real winter started. My dog loved to eat the ones that were in their dieing state. But they made her sick. And of course where ever she went to potty at more grew. I never found any cure for these yet.
I'll be interested in know what others say.
It may be spores in the air that caused them..

mushrooms will grow where ever there is decaying matter (often wood- either buried rotting wood or damaged/dead roots). THey like compost so you see them in around manure piles rom livestock as well. Have you used steer manure in your lawn? Or are there trees around? I'm not sure of any safe applications to get rid of them, as long as you have the right conditions for them to grow in. You could try some lawn maintenance like plugging or spiking the lawn to lossen and air the ground out. Check the PH of the ground to see if you need to do something like adding lime (a problem we have here).

just pick them and dispose of them if you dont like to see them. They only grow in just the right temperatures and conditions and will not be a bother all year. They are intermittent and will be gone soon anyway.
