Dune....and Done!

Oil breeds terrorism and terrorists. In "Dune" the universe depended on spice and it was desperately scarce. For us, it's oil.

The sad, insane truth is that plenty of power exists beneath the oil (geo-thermal) and above the smog (all solar: wind, PV, crops, phytoplankton, etc).

Regardless of party, if a president had put his/her foot down after 9/11 and, instead of spending $600 Billion on a war, had drilled geo-thermal powerplants and invested in low-temp micro-generators, that president would've been found with a bullet in the skull.

If you don't want more terrorism, we have one hope: 300 million U.S. citizens grinding this nation to a halt and staring the world down till we get our non-fossil-fuel replacement.

Yes, I do. Though we kept hearing the Iraq 9/11 connection, it turned out not to be true. You think they would have figured that out. It was well known that Hussein didn't want Al Queda in his country - he couldn't control them and that wasn't happening. They were milling around the outskirts of Iraq, but he ignored them as long as they didn't get in his hair. When we blew Iraq wide open Al Queda began pouring in. Now they occupy most of Western Iraq. They also have been experiencing a sharp surge in Afghanistan and the Taliban is almost becoming too much for Musharraf (sp) to handle. New terrorist cells are springing up all over Europe. The question is why they are growing so exponentially. The answer is twofold. One, that Bush is so entrenched in the civil war in Iraq that he isn't attending to the increased Al Queda threat surrounding him. And two, there is increased hatred for George Bush and the United States because of our occupation of Iraq and our soiled reputation in the way we now handle prisoners of war and our seeming inability to control the chaos in Iraq - which they rightly blame on us. We had no plan for the aftermath and no exit plan whatsoever. Now there are twice as many young men and women ready to murder themselves toward the end of destroying us - The Great Satan.

let us look at the current situation. we are fighting on two seperate fronts, in a war against a religious sect that wants all people to think, act and beleive the same way, and is willing to kill all those who don't . this sect is state funded, and is the same basic religion practiced by almost every country in a huge reagion. now, if this area is poor, and education is rare, there will be a lot of ignorant young men and women around that only know what this sect teaches, because they will be the ones doing the most prosletyzing, to rebuild their ranks after each death.
if you kill some of those that are doing the teaching though, it gets wosre, because now the people that they have been taught by hold them as a martyr, and long to follow them.
terrorism is like a bramble, you can cut the branchs back as much as you like, but until you chop out the root, in this case religious intolerance, you will not kill the bush. however, you have to cut off almost all the branches on a bramble before you have a chance to get the root, and the same holds true here. chop them back, and at the same time spread the doctrine of tolerance, and you can and will eventually win.

CNN, FOX, and MSNBC tell me so; TV never EVER lies, right?
/sarcasm

The terrorists were there long before Dubya was a threat to them. These "little wars" are just radicalizing massive amounts of people, allowing the terrorist ideology/mindset to expand. I don't know if Bush is attempting to create more enemies purposefully; it's a scary contemplation..

Sort of a loaded question... i don't think he really had a choice.
We're in the middle of a huge storm, so to speak. A winter storm. It's snowing and sleeting now, and people are getting in wrecks, but when it's over and all of the ice is settled on the trees, the trees will fall and take out the power of the poorer people that still have above-ground lines. The rich people will be fine; they have underground lines.
Wow, what a bad analogy.
What i mean is that with terrorism, we fight an ideology. We can't snuff out an ideology, and with our active participation in seeking out and destroying terrorists, we anger them and create more. But what else would you have the President do? Nuke the Middle East in general? Do nothing and hope they just sort of work out their issues against us in anger management classes? Or do you really think that diplomacy will make a difference against an agenda that states very clearly that they want us all dead?
The man or woman that comes out with an answer will be revered for the rest of the ages (if, oh if).
Of course, with humanity's recent luck, that man would be the antichrist.

well, I may state that we are drawing out all of the potential for terrorists! We kill them now so the future is brighter! It is better this way since if they all hide and do thing in the dark, we doomed! A person, from born, need 12 years to become a terrorists! If we killed 3000 a year, and their reserve may have 10000, they may recruit 1000 a year, for long they will be done. We may not kill them all, but they will need more time to recover and we will have enough time to take on their supporters!

Yes, absolutely!! The involvement of the US military in Iraq was a slap in the face to the whole ME. Our arrogance, superiority complex, and "god-less Western ways" all lead to more hatred from the ultra-Islamics! They, in turn, are used by the governments who would like to see the US butt-out completely.

Contrary to popular, mainstream American thinking, the "rulers" in the ME are quite politically savvy, intelligent, and "hip" to what's going on in the world!! But, lacking the armies and weapons to fight us "fairly" for the right to dominate their own countries, they employ the religious delusions of the radicals and use "terrorist" attacks as their battlegrounds.

We need to leave them alone!! No matter how much they may hate our lifestyles, we will always be able to BUY oil from the ME!! (Who would turn down money????) But we must stop flaunting our "immorality" and "atheism" in their faces. (Think of how angry our own Religious Right gets whenever someone mentions abortion or homosexuality....) It's like teasing the bull in the ring; and it's not necessary!! There are plenty of problems in the world that could use some (NON POLITICAL--if there IS such a thing) help from the US.

I've always heard that "the best revenge is success", and it's true! If we act as if we are the victims, we will continue to be treated as such. ("You hit me! Ow! Now I have to hit you back"---that gets us nowhere.) (Actually, it just makes them want to hit us back--again!)

I was raised as a Christian, and I was taught that the best way to prozelytize was to just live the best Christian life possible (Love your neighbor as yourself). When others see how peaceful, content, happy you are, and they ask you why, then (and only then) do you explain that it is because of your following of certain doctrines. Same goes with "democracy" (which, btw, is NOT the form of government we have in the US). When other countries see the "success" of our ways, they will begin to change, too. (See: USSR, and China...) You cannot browbeat anyone into believeing what you believe--whether it be religion OR politics! To do so only creates enemies!!!

No, Islam is breeding more terrorists.

You seem to be the one asking this question, and those like it, over and over. If you're so unhappy living in the U.S., why don't you leave? I'm sure you will be in joyful bliss once you reach another country who would gladly have you! Go!

Absolutely. With every bomb or missile, with every death in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they are now in the hundreds of thousands, we guarantee that there will be more who will want to fight us. Our own Global Terrorism Report says the same thing.
