Is that true for all types of work or is it the stress and strain of being President overbearing and long lasting.

What about the people you know...do the wives, in general, survive their husbands???

Back in the day, men used to be much older than their wives in the upper crust. So if a man married a woman 8 years younger than himself, and if women generally live longer than men anyway, then it's a statistical probability that women outlived their husbands.

Of course, both Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson lost their first wives and were only survived by their second wives. So I'm not sure how that plays out with your theory.

I think it has as much to do with age as stress. Most presidents are over 50 when elected to office. Add the stress of the job and the constant observance of the secret service and you have a recipe for disaster. Take into account the nutbars who always seem to want to kill the President, and you have a very high ratio of widows to widowers in the job.
In the rest of the world, it seems to be a 50/50 split, at least in my experience.

In general it is a fact that women live longer than men, now you take into account that in the majority of situations the husband is older than the wife, you basically have a pretty high chance of the husband dieing of before the wife.

and in the case of presidents that job does some severe damage to people just take a look at before and after pictures of presidents once they've served their 4 or 8 years, the changes are tremendous, boy george went in looking like just that, and now he looks like grandba george. obiously it has an effect on a persons health.

Presidents and leaders in general die earlier - simply due to the higher levels of stress- stress increases blood pressure and as a result weakens hearts and general immune system functions.

In the general population - and aware that i will pi$$ off many feminazi's - men are generally in a leadership role - i.e. leader of the family unit, or work place supervisor.
Also the male body is not built to live as long. Look at it - its broad, muscly and built for strength and warfare. The female body is made for carrying (internally) children and for not as strenuous work.

You'll also note that in the wild the stronger live longer... but what happens to a species when it begins to protect the weaker members? i would assume they would live longer....

interesting....

A NOTE TO FEMINISTS - im not saying they cant im saying its not designed to do it as much as a males body what an individual does is their own choice.

Stress. It's a killer.

In my family the widows will survive their men by decades (my great grandmother was a wife for 30 years, a widow for 40). The men, the widowers, don't survive their wives by more than a few years.

Of course. They try to make their husbands comfortable. Even in our very own homes. We might remember our father coming home from work and our mother making them less stress.

While it's true that all deceased Presidents who were married while in office have been survived by a wife, I believe there was a widower who got elected who later remarried and died before his second wife. Does that count? Someone who knows this please refresh my memory. Thanks.
